Bricolage

A technique where works are constructed from a variety of source materials and mediums, employing digital and physical collage, painting and mixed media, cut-up, and palimpsest deconstruction.

A note about my bricolage process: I hybridize digital and traditional methods, and often use intervening methods like cut-up, reproduction, or surrealist automatic drawing.

My bricolage style work often begins with intricate collages with sources as diverse as fashion magazines, internet memes, physical installations, photographs, AI, and anything in-between. Individual figures or elements are often Frankenstein’s monsters constructed out of as many as a dozen different sources, integrated through the process of drawing atop that underlying structure. These are then simplified down to their base colors / shapes and serve as the underpainting for the piece.
